2.

It’s that time again…time for some quick updates in Miller’s Minute this week.

1.       Did you know that our amazing PTO is about to kick-off their annual fundraiser to raise money for the many things they fund at our school?  They usually sell cookie dough, but this year they have set up a Double Good virtual fundraiser selling ultra-premium popcorn.  This is 100% contactless and the PTO gets to keep 50% of the profit.  Parents/guardians create a Pop-Up Store virtually, sell the delicious popcorn starting at just $11, and the product ships directly to your supporters.  We will have more information on our Facebook, website, and communicated with students the first week of September, so stay tuned!

2.       This week we continue our Progress Monitoring FAST Testing for Math.  Grade 3 will test tomorrow, grade 4 on Wednesday, and grade 5 on Thursday.  Please help us out by getting your child to school on time after a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast.  Encourage your child to do their best on their testing day because we need a good snapshot of what they can do so we can align their instruction.

3.       If your child received meal benefits last school year it stays in effect until 9/15 this year (unless your status has changed).  We are asking ALL FAMILIES to please complete the Free & Reduced Benefits application at Free & Reduced Benefits | Sarasota County Schools as soon as possible.  Even if you don’t think you qualify, we ask that you complete it as it brings added benefits and funding to our school.

4.       Do you know of a GREAT teacher at Gulf Gate that you feel needs to be honored and celebrated?  We are now taking nominations for the 24-25 Teacher of the Year.  Nomination forms can be picked up at the front office by parents and/or students, completed, and should be returned no later than Wednesday, September 4th at 3:00pm.  We look forward to your input on this important recognition.

5.       Finally, just a reminder that we have a long weekend coming up due to Labor Day.  There is no school for students or staff on Monday, 9/2.

Well, that’s a wrap for this week’s edition of Miller’s Minute.  We hope you have a great week!
