School Profile
Wilkinson Elementary school is nestled among beautiful oak trees in the heart of Sarasota County. The school serves just under 500 students and draws most of its population from the surrounding area. It is located on Wilkinson Road just off Beneva Road between Bee Ridge and Proctor. With close proximity to the Faulhaber Fab Lab, Suncoast Polytech High School and Suncoast Technical College, students are able to participate in unique learning partnerships regularly.
Students and families also benefit from amazing community support including over 200 community volunteers who are on the campus regularly serving as mentors, reading partners and providing unique learning opportunities for students.
What is STEAM?
Wilkinson staff provide rigorous and relevant learning opportunities to students regularly. In the Spring of 2024, Wilkinson Elementary School became the first school in Florida to earn National STEM Certification through the National Institute of STEM Education. At Wilkinson, we have a STEM+Arts focus referred to as STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. All students receive STEAM integration in the general education program.
As a STEAM-integrated school, we prepare students for the future with hands-on learning opportunities that broaden their intellect and nurture their inner strengths. Students are challenged to solve real-life problems by thinking beyond the expected. In addition, they actively learn skills for success in 21st-century careers: collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity and citizenship. Academic achievement soars in this stimulating environment.
STEAM Academy
Wilkinson's STEAM Academy is a K-5 learning opportunity for students who seek collaborative learning opportunities focused on increasing academic learning through creative investigative experiences in the classroom using the “five e’s”: engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate. Students in STEAM Academy use the same curriculum as all other grade level classes. Students have many opportunities throughout the year to partner across grade levels through immersive themes.
