Dear SMS families,

In February, SMS will be fitted with three Open Gate weapon detection systems to enhance safety. and security on our campus. This non-intrusive system is engineered to identify weapons, whether on a person or concealed within their bag or backpack, while keeping regular flow of foot traffic into our school. At the end of February, all students and visitors will enter campus through the main gates where the new systems will be positioned. Please read below for more information.

Please take a moment to provide your input on an important topic: the use of electronic devices in our schools. Sarasota County Schools is gathering feedback to guide a potential revision of our districtwide policy on student use of electronic devices (cell phones, earbuds, smartwatches,headphones, etc.).
