The Athletic Choice application window for the 2025-26 school year is open from March 1 to April 1, 2025. This opportunity is available to students in grades 9-12 who qualify as non-traditional students under Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) guidelines.
Eligible students may apply to participate in interscholastic athletic programs at a district high school outside their zoned school, following the Controlled Open Enrollment - Athletic Participation guidelines outlined in School Board Policy 5.20.
📌 Key Considerations:
Transportation is not provided to and from the designated choice school.
Students must meet all eligibility requirements to become an official member of the athletic team.
If a student does not make the team, they may not return to their districted school to participate in athletics for that school year.
Previously awarded students are grandfathered in.
Students at Pine View School, Suncoast Polytechnical High School, and Sarasota Virtual School do not need to apply and may choose which district high school they wish to play for.
How to Apply
Complete, sign, and submit the application to the District Athletic Office or email it to james.slaton@sarasotacountyschools.net no later than April 1, 2025.
Awarded students will be notified by April 15.
