district news

SCS Families,

In light of the recent storms and the disruptions they have caused, I want to provide an update on the necessary adjustments to our student calendar. In collaboration with the district's Calendar Committee, these changes have been carefully made to ensure that we meet the required instructional minutes, evenly distribute grading periods, preserve our scheduled holiday breaks and minimize the additional days staff would need to work beyond their original contract, maintaining our commitment to fiscal responsibility.

View the revised calendar: Revised SCS Student Calendar 2024-25.

Below are the specific updates:

Key Calendar Adjustments:

  • Starting October 21, all high school courses will move to a 48-minute minimum period length, if applicable.

  • Semester 1 will now conclude on January 16, 2025 (moved from December 20, 2024).

  • January 6, 2025, Professional Day will move to January 17, 2025, allowing staff time for planning at the end of the first semester. As a result, January 6 will be a student day and January 17 will be a non-student day.

  • March 14, 2025, previously designated as a Professional Day, will now be a student day.

  • May 29, 2025, will be a school day for students.

  • All student days

will be full days, including during semester exam weeks.

Grading Period Adjustments:

  • Grading Period 1: August 12 – October 25 (43 Days)

  • Grading Period 2: October 28 – January 16 (44 Days)

  • Grading Period 3: January 21 – March 28 (43 Days)

  • Grading Period 4: March 31 – May 29 (42 Days)

With these changes, we've ensured that our students receive the necessary instructional time while minimizing disruption to holiday breaks and maintaining a balanced distribution of the grading periods.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we implement these adjustments.

Superintendent of Schools
