Sarasota County Schools is proud to announce that three students from Pine View School recently competed at the world's largest pre-college STEM competition, the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2024. The event was held from May 11-17 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.
Out of competitors from around the globe, two Pine View students, Xinyi Liu and Aadi Bhensdadia, earned prestigious second place awards in their respective categories, each winning $2,000 in prize money along with invaluable networking opportunities.
Biochemistry
Xinyi Liu was awarded the Second Award of $2,000 for her project titled "ERPD: A Novel Protein Design Approach to Engineering and Optimizing Smaller Fluorescent Proteins" (Project Code: BCHM037). Her innovative research focused on creating smaller, more efficient fluorescent proteins, which have significant applications in biological imaging and medical diagnostics.
Biomedical Engineering
Aadi Bhensdadia also secured the Second Award of $2,000 for his project "Utilizing 3D Additive Biomanufacturing To Develop a Biocompatible, Customizable and Durable Mechanical Aortic Valve – Year 2" (Project Code: ENBM076). His work involves developing advanced biomanufacturing techniques to create durable and customizable mechanical aortic valves, potentially revolutionizing cardiac care.
In addition to their monetary awards, both students have been invited to participate in a week-long summer camp at the NC State College of Engineering. This experience will further enhance their engineering skills and expose them to cutting-edge research and innovation in their fields.
