Vision: The Sarasota Middle School community collaborates to inspire and empower students by establishing high expectations for all.
Dear SMS families,
This week, students in grades 6-8 who are not enrolled in Algebra 1 or Geometry took the Math FAST assessment. We are pleased that 66% are proficient at PM2. This is an 18-point jump in proficiency from PM1. We will continue to work on building math proficiency to meet our school goal of 88% proficiency by PM3.
Next week we will wrap up 2024 with a Holiday Dress Up Spirit Week. You can find out more by reading the full newsletter.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are thrilled to be able to strengthen safety for our students, staff, and visitors. In February, SMS will introduce OpenGate, a non-intrusive weapons detection system engineered to identify weapons, whether on a person or concealed within their bag or backpack, while keeping the regular flow of foot traffic into our buildings. I will share much more with you and our students over the next month, so all feel fully informed and prepared for this new enhancement to our security, but to begin, please review the Important Downloads section at the bottom of the newsletter for more information.
Best, Mrs. Nzeza
