Dear SMS families,

The SMS Green Team began a recycling challenge this week. The classroom competition is being held to see which class can bring in the most textiles to place in our Green Team Recycling Bin! This is a fundraiser for our school AND we are helping to reuse and recycle your old belongings! Textiles such as: shoes, belts, scarves, clothing, bedding, and towels are welcome! The competition will last one week, so clean out your closets! The advisory class with the most items donated to the Green Team Recycling Bin will get a Krispy Kream donut party! All items are due to classrooms by Wednesday, December 17th. Thank you for participating in our Green Team Challenge!

Mrs. Nzeza

• School begins promptly at 9:30 AM.
Students arriving after 9:30 are marked tardy, so please help ensure your child arrives on time and ready for the day. Tardiness negatively affects students academically, behaviorally, and socially. Missing important instruction can lead to lower grades, more disciplinary issues, and decreased engagement. It also disrupts the classroom and, over time, can contribute to poor habits.

• Please check your child’s grades on Focus regularly.
Middle school can be a big transition, and many students still benefit from family support in keeping up with assignments and staying organized.

• Student IDs must be worn every day, all day.
This is a district-wide safety requirement. We’ve given many reminders and extra grace, but beginning this week students who are not wearing their ID will receive a before-school detention. If a student goes five days without an ID, a replacement will be issued and a $5 fee will be charged. Providing your child with a lanyard can really help them keep track of their ID.
