Dear Parent/Guardian,

Your 10th grade student will participate in the PSAT on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. The PSAT is offered free to all 10th graders. It includes verbal, mathematics, and writing assessments. The PSAT is used as a diagnostic tool to measure students' academic strengths and weaknesses and provides performance and skills feedback.

Participation in the PSAT can offer a variety of benefits including:

1. The test results can open-up discussions about future education plans that may not have been considered.

2. The test results will provide high school counselors with information to help identify students who are ready or need additional work in order to enroll and be successful in Advanced Placement and/or AICE college preparatory courses. Students who participate in and pass the Advanced Placement and/or AICE course exams can earn college credit while still in high school.

3. The PSAT measures the same skills and has the same format as the SAT. On average students who take the PSAT earn higher scores on the SAT then those who do not.

All 10th grade students are strongly encouraged to take the PSAT. Should you wish to exempt your child from participating, please provide written notice to the school by October 11, 2019. This notice should be addressed to Christopher Knight. If a written notice is not received, your child is expected to participate in the PSAT.
