Garden’s PTSO Does That?

  • Provides Funding For Programs: PTSO provides funding for programs and events such as Donuts For Dads, Harvest Festival, Character Ed., Holiday Shop & STEM Fair.
  • Provides Funding Assistance For Classrooms: PTSO assists in funding for Field Trips, Reading Programs as well as Adopt A Class Sponsorships.
  • Coordinates Volunteers: PTSO coordinates volunteers for our school events.
  • Teacher & Staff Appreciation: PTSO hosts our schools teacher and staff appreciation activities.

PTSO meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 3:15pm in the Media Center. If you are interested in joining the PTSO or volunteering for a PTSO event please contact (I would suggest Angela’s email here Angela.snyder@firstintitle.com )

Board Member Minutes

April 18, 2019

Board Members Present: Angie Snyder-President, Monica Leighton-Vice President, Becky Leake-Treasurer, Brandi Welge-Secretary

Welcome: The meeting was called to order at 3:17pm.

Consent Agenda: March Minutes were approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Adopt-a-Class put on Facebook and there was a great response.  Only four teachers left to be adopted.  Budget Request for staff needs to be turned in by the end of the year.  Gator Run-$7462.48; Final amount to come at the next meeting.  We are still selling the kindness shirts.  Teachers will have sheets for money left to spend in mailboxes next week.

End of Year Activities: Each grade will get $210.00 to spend.

Muffins for Moms: Muffins were donated by Otis Spunkmeyer and it was a great event!  The song and video were wonderful -Thank You to Mrs.Saul and Ms.Leary. 

K Round Up: Kindergarten Round-Up went very well.  The tour for parents was a great addition.  Suggestion for next year- sell more PTSO items and take pictures outside after it is over.

Other Business:

-Possibility of Gator Run paperwork being given out earlier.

-Art Show May 16- volunteers needed, 6:00-7:30pm.  Parents will be able to pay with cash or check.

-Teacher Appreciation Week- please sign up on the sheet.  May 6-10

Fifth Grade Reps:  Muffins for Moms was a great success.

March 7, 2019

 Welcome: The meeting was called to order by PTSO Treasurer, Becky Leake at 3:18pm.

Consent Agenda: Minutes were approved.

*Treasurer’s Report:  We still have 12 teachers that need to be adopted. We discussed the possibility of putting a “goal” thermometer in parent pick up.   Publix Mother’s Day cakes will be removed from the budget.

 Gator Run Final Details:

-Popscicles- Wal-Mart will donate these. Thank You to Mr.Houston.

-Staff Shirts will be ready on Monday.

-We will need four pop-up tents.

-Packets for Parents will go home Friday (March 8th).

 Other Business: Monica has set up Pledge Star/Pay Pal live.

 Mrs.Archer/Mr.Carey’s Moments:

We are thankful for all the work being done for Gator Run.  We may have lunch provided to staff on Gator Run day.

Monica shared that she talked to a parent that was wondering if there could be a group discussion on bullying.

February 21,2019

 Welcome: The meeting was called to order by PTSO President, Angie Snyder 3:15pm.

Consent Agenda: Minutes were approved.

*Treasurer’s Report:

We have 12 teachers left to be adopted, Kindness t-shirts will be on sale at Gator Run and K roundup.

*Gator Run: Thursday, March 14th.  Monica still securing shirt quote;

Grades K-2 8:45-9:30  Grades 3-5 9:45-10:45

Classes need to be out to the field by 8:30.  There will be one track, two groups.

Teacher Packets will be distributed.  We need 2-4 volunteers per class to count laps.  We will also need volunteers to work the check-in table. 

Officer Aker will get additional security for this day.  Mr. Ferguson will be the DJ.  Waters and popsicles will be provided. 

Parents can pay to put messages on shirts for their student.

*Muffins for Moms: School wide event, Michelle Leary will lead the event, Otis will donate muffins, Volunteers needed, 5th grade reps can help.  Tentative dates: April 16, 17, 18th.   7:30-8:00am, Safety Patrols will help also.

*Teacher Appreciation Help

Week of May 6-10th Volunteers are needed for decorations and meals.  Student Reps will help as well.

*Nominations: New Vice President- Melissa Pappini; all other board members voted and approved.

*Other Business:

Becky shared information from Annual PTSO meeting- officers for every campus will be happening, lots of new ideas for next year.

DQ coupon cards given out for Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, Reading Goals

Venice Golf Cart Club- donated $1500 for summer learning.

Coast Life donated to paying for lunch fees of students and donated 10-$50 gift cards to Office Depot.

Fire Drill on Friday, Feb.22 and there is a Lock Down coming up soon.

Meeting called to order at 3:20pm.

October meeting minutes approved.

 Treasurer’s Report:

Kindness shirts- $1500 profit so far.

 Otis Spunkmeyer:

Thank You to all who helped.  Pick up for items will be Dec.12th.  Profits from fundraiser will go partly toward senior scholarships.  Pink slips from the order forms were sent home for parents to keep.

 Holiday Shop:

Envelopes will go home in the green folder.  Students will shop and bring home gifts that day.  We will need volunteers to work the shop.  Dates are Dec.4-7th.

 Harvest Festival:

5:30-8:00

Families, booths, silent auction, pizza and soda

Booths are on the map and all set to go. Mr.Ferguson will be the DJ on the big map so there is room for dancing.  Tickets are $.50 each.

 Other: Idea was suggested that for next year, we consider doing the Harvest Festival in October before the time change so we will have more light.

Welcome: The meeting was called to order by PTSO President, Angie Snyder 3:25pm.

Consent Agenda: Minutes were approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Adopt-a-Class is still going, and 19 teachers have been adopted. Business Partner progress is coming along- we are over budget on membership. We were $80.00 over on Donuts for Dad.

 

Go Gold: The project went great and the total will be known soon. Thank You for all support!

 

Fifth Grade Reps: The new student representatives were introduced.  Owen Henderson and Lilly- they suggested having a Game Truck at Harvest Festival and to change the pizza in the cafeteria.

Otis Spunkmeyer: Envelopes and information go home Monday, October 22nd.  Cookies will also be given out to parents at parent pickup this day- Fifth grade reps will help.  PTSO Reps will be on campus to help give out the mystical creatures.  Pick up date for orders will be determined.  Suggestion: Orders could be picked up in ABC order by last name.  Also, will PTSO donate $100 to the money booth?

 

Harvest Festival: November 16th, 5:30-8:00.  Sign-up sheet for teachers will be up on Monday, Oct.22.  There will be an on-line auction. Student reps will do a live video for the auction on Facebook. We will give out a letter for business’s so parents can get donations.

 

Holiday Shop: December 3-7th.  We will need volunteers to work the shop.  There will be signs on the tables for prices and two registers working.  There will be more scannable items and we will set up on Monday, Dec.3rd after school- shopping will take place Dec.4-7th

 

Mrs.Archer/Mr.Carey’s Moments: STEM Fair is Nov.1st.  Lina Howard is organizing the fair and will eed volunteers for judging on Oct.29-31st.  Mr.Carey went over the SAC Roster and we voted to approve.  SAC meets the last Thursday of each month.

Meeting called to order at 3:34pm.

August meeting minutes approved.

Treasurer’s Report: 30 teachers left to be adopted. Business partners are up to $5000.00.  We stayed in the budget for Donuts for Dads.

Officer Acker was introduced and shared that he is happy to be at Garden and working with our students.

Donuts for Dads: Thanks for all the help- we had great participation and everyone had fun.

Otis Spunkmeyer Fundraiser: We will need lots of volunteers on drop day.  We will be sorting and bagging.  KNN will show a video to get the students excited.  The fundraiser will begin on Oct.22nd  and end on Nov.2nd. PTSO student reps will be part of the KNN video.

Go Gold: 9/28- everyone will wear gold.  ROTA kids will take on this task of helping out with collecting the money, etc.  Students will bring change and teachers will collect in jars.  Flyers will go home with students tomorrow.

Student Reps: Classes will be voting and reps will be at the next meeting.

Harvest Festival: November 16th- potties, slide and lights are already reserved.  The event will take place in the bus loop and we will need volunteers all day for set up, etc.  There will be a silent auction on line. If teachers/teams want to put an item/basket in the auction, then email Monica Leighton.

Consent Agenda: No minutes to approve because this is our first meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: Expenses so far- Breakfast

Expenses coming up: Donuts for Dads

Teachers are starting to get adopted.

“Go Gold”- This is a collection for another school to raise money for research for cancer in children. Motion to “Go Gold” by Jen K. and a second given by Brandi W.  Flyer will be sent home August 28th.  Students and Staff will wear gold.

Fundraiser: Otis Spunkmeyer- Oct.22-Nov.2, KNN will do a video to get students motivated for the fundraiser.

Donuts for Dad: Dates are Sept.18, 19, 20.  We will need 5-6 volunteers here by 7:15-7:30.  Cafeteria will be notified for supplies (milk, coffee, etc.).  Publix will donate the donuts.  They will need a count by Sept.14th. They will deliver the donuts to the school.

Harvest Festival: November 16th.  We will need lots of volunteers.  Monica has auction items and the auction will be online.  We discussed the possibility of a team auction item and the team will get the money.

Mrs.Archer/Mr.Carey’s Moments: Mr.Carey reviewed the State Equity Laws.  They are available on the district website.

Welcome: The meeting was called to order by Angie Snyder at 3:27pm.

Consent Agenda:  April minutes on the table and posted to website.  Motion to approve them by Julia Capron.  Second by Camille Hilliard.

Treasurer’s Report:  Gator Run-goal was $12,500 and we made $16,870.

Teacher Appreciation Week-went a little over budget.

Last day to turn in receipts is May 23rd.

Membership was down this year.

 Scholarship: Winners were celebrated- Noah Carroll and Kaley Houston.

Cakes for Moms: Event went well. The spacing of classes worked better than last year.

 Teacher Appreciation Week: The teachers say THANK YOU to PTSO! Everything was so nice!

 Music Equipment: Board will discuss the two quotes at the budget meeting on Tuesday, May 22nd.

 Mrs. Archer/Mr. Carey’s Moments: Thank You to student reps.  Thank You to the board for all they do.

Treasury Report:

Gator Run- $17,000

Adopt-a-class- 2 left

Money left for each teacher was put in mailboxes.

All teams need to submit what they may need funds for in order for it to be put in the budget for next year.

Mother’s Day Cakes: May 11th, start at 12:30, volunteers set

End of Year Events: $210.00 per grade

RC Party- Mrs. Morris will order ice-cream, etc.

Scholarship: 14 students submitted, board used a rubric (GPA, years at Garden, Essay, volunteer hours), all personal information was blacked out.  Two applicants will be selected and given $1000 each.  Award ceremony at VPAC on May 17th.

Other:

Otis Spunkmeyer might donate muffins for Muffins for Moms for this year.

Received Quote for new sound system-will see if Troll Music might match it.

Mrs. Archer/Mr. Carey’s Moments: FSA Testing is going well.  Thank You gifts given to the board for volunteering.

Welcome: The meeting was called to order by Angie Snyder at 3:15pm.

Consent Agenda: February minutes on the table and posted to website.  Motion to approve them by Camille Hilliard.

Treasury Report: There are still 8 teachers left to adopt.  $10,000 already donated online for the Gator Run.

Election Results: No new people nominated so current members of board will stay-motion was made to approve to keep the current board in place. Motion was made by Mrs.Archer and all approved.

Cakes for Mom/Muffins for Mom idea: Cakes for Mom will be May 11th.  Muffins for Mom (school wide) was also presented to SDMT.  We will wait to see consensus from SDMT and then see about moving forward to be on the PTSO budget for next year.

Scholarship: Scholarship applications are due April 6th.  Amy will pick them up from VHS on April 13th.  Board will meet on April 19th to decide on recipients.  May 17th will be the award ceremony.

Other Business:  We will purchase a new sound system.  Mr.Ferguson will store the equipment in the music room.  Motion was approved by Flo Neu.

Mrs.Archer and Mr.Carey’s Moments:

-Thank You for all the help with Channel 10 News and the Gator Run.

-Garden will be Title One next year.

-There will be some school safety changes put in place over the summer.

Welcome: The meeting was called to order by PTSO President Angie Snyder at 3:15

Consent Agenda: January minutes on the table and posted to website.  Motion to approve them by Joanna Davis.

 Treasurer’s Report: We are up $300 for Business Partners.  We still have 14 teachers that need to be adopted.  Allocations left will be sent out.

 Gator Run Update:  Letters will be sent home for Business Partners.  The medals are in and the field will be sprayed.  Ten cases of water was donated as well as gift cards from Publix.  Becky will also follow up with the orthodontist for water donations.  Lunch will be provided for teachers from Sonny’s.  There will be an assembly during specials this day so teachers don’t miss their planning time.

 Referendum: Register to vote by March 20th.

 Voting: We will vote for board members at the next meeting and announce.

 Scholarship: The scholarship is already available.  Forms will start coming in and we will announce the winner at the April meeting.

 Other: Becky shared information about the “Venice History Tour” for 4th and 5th grade.

 Mrs.Archer/Mr.Carey’s Moments: Excited about Channel 10 News.  Testing is starting soon.  Sickness is going around-custodians are on it and cleaning the classrooms/doorknobs, etc.)

Welcome: The meeting was called to order by Angie Snyder at 3:20pm.

Consent Agenda: November/December minutes on the table and posted to website.  Motion to approve them by Julia Capron.

Treasury Report: Still trying to get all teachers adopted.  Holiday Shop profit was $2995.52

Holiday Shop: Using the company that supplied the items was helpful.  Suggestion made that for next year, we should have certain grade levels on certain days.  Profit from the holiday shop was $2995.52.

Gator Run: The run will be on March 15th (Thursday) before professional day on Friday.  We will need waters and popsicles. Publix may donate a gift card to help out.  We will also need 15 prizes- 3 big prizes.  Joanna Davis has the T-Shirts taken care of.  Suggestion made that maybe students/teachers might want to think about wearing the same color shirts and make banners for each class.  *Teachers should email Joanna if we want to do this.  We will need to put a tent up for shade- maybe boy scouts can help with that.  We will need two more pop up tent as well.

Other Business:  Fifth grade requested extra funds for the Biz Town Field Trip.   They will present the numbers for this to the board at the next meeting.

Book Fair- Feb.5-9?we will need volunteers.  Parent night will be Feb.7 ?will need two volunteers for that.  Fair will be open 8:30-2:30 each day.

Mrs.Archer/Mr.Carey's Moments:  Thank You for the Staff Lunch- it was delicious!  Also, thank you for all the hard work on the Holiday Shop.  Pelican Point fundraiser will help with Adopt-a-Class.  Jump Rope for Heart raised $1200 so far.  School of the Week will be February 16th.PTSO Garden Elementary
