Hackathon Success - Booker HS, Booker MS and Woodland MS

Congratulations to Booker HS, Booker MS and Woodland MS students competing in the first annual SRQ Hackathon!

This weekend students from 3 schools participated in Sarasota’s first Hackathon sponsored by the Education Foundation. They worked 3 hrs Friday, 12 hrs on Sat, and 9 hrs on Sun. The kids were divided into small groups with business mentors and given the task to create a functioning website and app that addressed a community issue. Upon completion, the children had to present in front of a large audience and panel of judges who grilled them about the specifics of their concept and execution.

The students were awarded prizes; Booker HS's very own Jyaire Marshburn won 1st place in the Hackathon this weekend.  His teacher, Tina MCCrea gave him high praise, "We are very proud of him and all the participants".  Xavier Clough and Dylan Hubbard's group received the largest honor. They were awarded $3,500 which they get to donate to any charitable organizations they choose.

Congratulations to the following students for participating:  Xavier Clough, Dylan Hubbard, Austin Rich, Jon Sickon, Brandon Montgomery

"I am sooo proud of these kids!", said Kristina Beecher, Technology Education, TSA & VEX Advisor, Woodland Middle School.
