ESOL Programs
The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program in Sarasota County is designed to provide academic, social, cultural, and support services to students who are learning English as a second language. The Sarasota County School District recognizes the linguistic and cultural diversity of its students and encourages all students to preserve their native cultures while developing an awareness of U.S. culture.
Our goal is to provide English Language Learners (ELLs) opportunities to achieve the state and Sarasota County standards for all academic subject areas so that students graduate or receive their GED.
Parents and ESOL Placement
Parents may not refuse remediation for their child. The school is held accountable for the student’s success and section 1003.02(1)(a), Florida Statutes, places the authority and responsibility for assignment of students with the school district.

Our work is guided by the District ELL Plan, which explains how educational opportunities and services are provided to bilingual and non-native speakers of English.
For administrators - If you are an administrator working with English Language Learners, please read the Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 6A-6, Programs for Limited English Proficient Students.
