If you are the victim of a sexual assault, notify law enforcement and a school official immediately. STC participates as a referral agency to SPARCC (Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center) 941-365-0208 and complies with School Board due process regarding sexual harassment.

Do not engage in any activity that might cause you harm or endanger another person or school property.

If you are a victim, intended victim or a witness to a crime, report it immediately to an STC administrator (LISTED ABOVE). Be alert to your surroundings at all times, and if you see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, notify an administrator immediately at 941-924-1365.

If you witness a crime or are a victim and you call an administrator, please be prepared to provide the following information:

• Your name;

• Brief description of any injury;

• The location of the incident you are reporting;

• Description of the scene;

• A description of any possible suspects and;

• A description of the vehicles involved (if any) and a license plate number.

All reasonable measures are taken to protect students, employees and visitors. It is expected that all faculty, staff and students will act in a safe manner and report any unsafe condition or dangerous situation. STC will not tolerate any type of disruptive or inappropriate behavior that interferes with the primary educational mission of STC or creates a threat to any person or property. We take a proactive stance on safety and security and encourage an awareness of possible issues on campus.

STC complies with state and federal laws that prohibit the sale, use or possession of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, or weapons on campus. We cooperate fully with authorities in the enforcement of civil and criminal laws.

Cooperation and involvement of every STC student, staff, and visitor is absolutely necessary to ensure maximum safety and security. All persons must assume responsibility for their own safety and security of personal belongings. No security plan can attain maximum effectiveness unless everyone contributes to its success.

The following is a list of a few common sense precautions for your safety and security:

• Never leave your purse or valuables unattended, even for a brief moment. Do not leave belongings unattended and secure valuables whenever possible.

• Always lock your car. Place valuables in the trunk.

• Be patient when leaving the parking lots after class. Accidents can occur in the parking lot or in the intersections of main streets surrounding STC.

• Be sure to mark or label all property. Keep your books with you or properly secured at all times.

• If you are on campus at night, take the following precautions:

• Always walk in a group or with at least one other person to your class, parking lot or remote campus location.

• Avoid working in a classroom or isolated location after 9:00pm.

• Never walk through unlighted areas of the campus. Choose the most lighted pathways and stay on the sidewalks.

• Park in a location closest to your last class.

Become an involved and alert student. Your ideas, comments and contribution to our safety and security efforts are encouraged and welcomed. Remember, we are always looking for ways to ensure Suncoast Technical College is a safe, secure and healthy place to work and study.
