Sarasota High JROTC

Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is an elective course whose purpose is to motivate young people to become better citizens. JROTC focuses on teaching leadership, citizenship and American Government, health/fitness, and foundations for success after graduating high school. Students understand how to motivate others while strengthening their ability to study, take tests, and succeed academically.

JROTC offers several extracurricular activities, including drill team, raiders, rifle marksmanship team, and color guard, which further instill leadership skills, self-confidence, and discipline. Cadets have the opportunity to attend JROTC summer camp, where they will train on obstacle courses, rappel, play team sports, and learn land navigation. JROTC is not a recruiting program and cadets are under NO obligation to join the military. However, if graduates choose to enlist, they may be eligible for increases in rank upon completion of basic training. Students who complete two years of JROTC can waive the HOPE credit requirement. Completion of two years of JROTC will also fulfill the Performing Arts graduation requirement.
