McIntosh Middle School was founded in 1962, and is currently the only STEM A2 Magnet Middle School Program in the Sarasota County School District. Additionally, as a Project Lead the Way school, we offer classes in Design and Modeling, Green Architecture, Computer Coding, Aerospace, Electronics, Engineering, Biotechnology, and more. We are looking to add an additional Magnet Program for those students looking for a specific college/career, and is closely aligned with Suncoast Polytechnical High School. The new program is the Suncoast Academy for Science, Technology, and the Arts.

Through integrating the various STEM fields, in addition to the Arts and in-depth study of Agriscience, every classroom campus-wide benefits from rich educational experiences and exploration. Our Odyssey of the Mind team is the only middle school team in Sarasota to have EVER qualified for the World Competition, and placed 12th in the world in 2015. Students from the Hawks Gifted Academy for Advanced Studies program make up the majority of our Odyssey of the Mind Team, and are largely responsible for its great success. Furthermore, the McIntosh VEX Robotics team continues to compete throughout the State.
