OSPREY, Oct. 20, 2017 – The Food and Nutrition Services Department of Sarasota County Schools will host the fifth annual Chefs Move to Schools: Kids N Chefs Sundown Gala, 5:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Pine View School. The dinner will be served in the school cafeteria.

The Chefs Move to Schools program pairs local professional chefs with schools to help educate children about food and nutrition. Students learn culinary skills and contribute to recipe creation for the district’s school lunches, while chefs gain an understanding of school food service and the National School Lunch Program.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. They can be purchased online at tinyurl.com/CM2S2017 or directly from Food and Nutrition Services staff and School Nutrition Association members. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to a Sarasota County School Nutrition Association fund that awards annual college scholarships to high school seniors in each of the district’s traditional public high schools.

Chefs and restaurant owners partnering with schools to create chef-inspired, kid-approved recipes featuring Florida-grown foods include:

  • Chef Paul Mattison, chef/owner, Mattison’s Restaurants & Catering (Pine View School)
  • Chef Ray Lajoie, chef, Mattison’s Forty-One (Phillippi Shores Elementary)
  • Chef Michael Yoder, chef, Oak & Stone (Ashton Elementary)
  • Chef Steve Phelps, chef/owner, Indigenous (Alta Vista Elementary)
  • Chef Evan Gastman, chef, The Cottage (Tuttle Elementary)
  • Chef Mark Woodruff, chef, Made Restaurant (Fruitville Elementary)

Community members are encouraged to help celebrate this collaboration of local chefs, Sarasota County public school students, and Food and Nutrition Services Department staff by attending the Kids N Chefs Sundown Gala.

Pine View School is located at 1 Python Path in Osprey.
