SARASOTA COUNTY, April 17, 2017 – The Sarasota High School Theater Department will present its spring 2017 musical, “Les Misérables,” based on the novel by Victor Hugo. The musical was written by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boubil, with English lyrics by Howard Kretzmer.

Performances will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, April 26-29, with an additional matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday. The show will be staged in the SHS Theater.

This musical classic tells the story of Jean Valjean’s road to redemption. It is filled with romance, laughter and tears.

Director Melissa Dweck said, “Performing ‘Les Mis’ was never on our radar for this year, but the students wanted to do this production so badly that they created their own revolution and proved to us that we could do it! They have poured their hearts and souls into this musical. Everyone should come and see it. I promise they will not be disappointed."

Anna Massey said, “Being a senior, I have been given the chance to realize that being a part of this show is something special and unforgettable and I think anyone who sees the show will agree!”

SHS is dedicating the production to one of their 2016 alumni who passed away in a car accident over spring break. Opening night will include a remembrance for her before the production begins.

Tickets are available online at www.shstheater.com. Prices are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.

Sarasota High School is located at 1000 S. School Ave., Sarasota.
