CTE Students Celebrate Manufacturing Day - Oct 7th

CTE students celebrated Manufacturing Day, Oct 7th, in a big way in Sarasota County!

Approximately 300 students from 11 middle and high schools visited 5 local manufacturers (ASO LLC, KHS USA, Sun Hydraulics, Super Sensitive Musical Strings, Teak Decking Systems, plus the Suncoast Technical College to find out more about what Florida makes, how we do it, and what career opportunities are available in Sarasota County.  Students at Woodland Middle School were able to see and understand how our classroom learning translates to careers and also see how many different jobs are necessary for the functioning of a company.  Teacher Kristina Beecher noted, "Everyone we met was impressed with our students’ knowledge and behavior."

To help prepare teachers and students for their tours, teachers relied on resources from Florida Advanced Technology Education (FLATE) for lesson plans and videos from Florida Makes!

Due to Hurricane Matthew, the trip to PGT Industries was postponed until Nov 16th.  Approximately 100 middle school students from Heron Creek, Laurel Nokomis, Sarasota, and Venice will travel to PGT for a tour of their facility.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these manufacturing visits happen!
