I. Welcome

Peter Straw called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m. He welcomed the group.

A motion by Javier Brito, seconded by Scott Moore, approved the minutes.

II. Director’s Report

· Enrollment Summary: The snapshot of enrollment was reviewed. George McGonagill requested a rolling summary be continued every month.

· Budget: The budget will be available on April 24 and the special meeting date will be set. There was no discussion or comments on the elements of the budget at this time.

IIl. Dialog with the Director of CTE

· The group met with Mellissa Morrow, Director of CTE, for the first time.

· Transportation of students is an issue for SCTI.

· The group discussed scheduling and class length.

· The focus is “college readiness” for all students, not college for all students. The selling points for technical education were discussed. Mellissa Morrow indicated that the district is moving to technical education for all students.

· The group discussed the impact of FCAT on enrollment and future plans.

· Rigor and relevance and small learning communities were discussed.

IV. Old Business

George McGonagill reported on the new technical center. No construction manager has been selected and there has not been any additional progress on the construction plans. The opening date is now 2009-2011.

The writing of specifics for the website revision is in progress. The RFP will go out in May. The cost will be allocated to the 2006-07 budget.

V. New Business

Reinvent SCTI Committee begins meeting on April 12. It will be a six-month process of approximately three meetings. Members of the committee include representatives from business, Landings, SDMT, department chairpersons, and administration.

There are vacancies on the SAC. Johnny Hunter expressed an interest in participating. The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce will inform the business community that vacancies exist. The SAC currently meets all membership requirements including over 50% business membership, two students, a parent, staff and SDMT representation.

VI. SDMT

Emergency protocol was discussed. Only one room on campus lacks a phone or intercom. A pamphlet for emergency procedures will be distributed so that everyone on campus follows the same procedure in an emergency.
There are issues of safety in areas where walkers, buses, and automobiles are together. This will be investigated. SAC suggested that the Director of Construction, Chuck Collins, be contacted regarding traffic issues before the next meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm by a motion by Jerry Greenstein, seconded by George McGonagill. It passed unanimously.
