II.         Director’s Report

·         Enrollment Summary: Adult technical enrollment decreased due to timing of report.  Over 40 students started the Practical Nursing program two days after the report was calculated.  Bruce discussed graduation options and course options, as well as apprenticeship enrollment numbers.

·         Bruce, Louis, and a subcommittee will meet before March 20th to discuss Practical Nursing and Certified Nursing Assistant programs meeting the community employment needs.  All SAC members will be invited to the meeting.  A report on the meeting and its outcome will be shared at the March SAC meeting.

IIl.        Old Business

·         Technical High School:  George indicated there have been no large group meetings due to funding issues.  Tomorrow, February 14, 2006, there will be a presentation to the Board by the architects.  Four building options will be presented.  A second technical high school is being planned for South County, adjacent to the MCC Venice campus. George may attend the Board presentation on 2/14/06.

·         Revision of the SCTI website is in progress.  As required by Florida law, a Request for Proposal (RFP) will be prepared for the project.  The RFP provides the scope of services and expectations for the website development.  Vendors respond to the RFP, listing the approach they would use to meet the RFP specifications, and the cost for their services.  The School Board has a specified process to award the RFP to a vendor.  Carol Darling is working with Pat Black and the Purchasing Dept. The technical side is currently being discussed.  Timeline: 2 months.  The 2005-06 budget doesn’t have funds for the project; the 2006-07 budget will be used to fund it.

·         PGT: The 8th grade student/parent tour of PGT received positive comments by the students and their parents.  The evening started with a pizza party hosted by and located in the SCTI cafeteria.  After a brief information session explaining SCTI’s programs, the participants boarded a bus for a ride to PGT.  During the ride, they were briefed on careers in specialty manufacturing.  The PGT staff provided background information about the plant and its processes.  A tour followed. Students and parents/guardians evaluated the evening as an overwhelming success.

·         The SAC was reminded of the referendum vote on March 14.

IV.        SDMT

Terrie Minter reported that the SDMT elected new officers; Terrie is the new Chair.  About 1/3 of the SDMT membership changed over the last year, so a consensus building training session is being planned.  The next meeting is March 7.
