It was moved by George McGonagill, seconded by Carolyn Haworth to approve the Minutes of the June 13, 2005 meeting.

The motion passed by voice vote.

III.        Director’s Report

·         Carol Darling introduced Bert Panganiban from the Herald Tribune to discuss the 2005-06 marketing plan.  Bert presented the year long integrated approach using all three Herald Tribune media groups including video (SNN TV), newsprint (Herald-Tribune) and website.  The plan capitalizes on the print slogan, Get a Life! – calling adult readers to take action.  Get a Life will be followed by another slogan such as, what are you waiting for or get a good life through SCTI.  Discussion also centered on measures that will be used to determine if the campaign is successful in catching the public’s attention, influencing student enrollment and changing SCTI’s image from vo-tech to a technical institute

IV.        Old Business

·         Technical Center

George McGonagill discussed progress at the meetings being held to plan the Technical Center, including the Technical High School.  He presented a timeline that will open the Technical High School building in August, 2007.  Hiring of an architectural firm and solicitation of community input was discussed.

·         Special Focus Programs

SCTI special focus programs, Surgical Tech, Network Support and Culinary Arts were discussed.  Each program is focusing on curriculum revision, examination of enrollment opportunities and special attention on recruitment.

·         SAC Membership

Each member was encouraged to recruit other members to participate as a SAC member.  Individuals will be recruited from Venice Regional Medical Center, Forest Products, Sysco and the EDC.  Javier volunteered to recruit a student, a parent and an SCTI automotive advisory member.

V.                  SDMT Report

No report was given since the SDMT did not meet since the last SAC meeting.
