SIP Dialogues with the School Board

There will be an open discussion on April 15, 2008 between Phillippi Shores International Baccalaureate World School, Garden Elementary School and the Sarasota County School Board regarding the SIP (School Improvement Plan).  SAC members were encouraged to attend, if desired.  It was also mentioned that anyone who wanted to attend the dialogue should become better acquainted with our school’s SIP data in order to accurately participate in the open discussion.  Talia VonBender announced to the members that next month’s SAC meeting will be dedicated to preparing for this dialogue and members were asked to come prepared to discuss what resources or support are needed for Phillippi Shores from the School Board.

Data:  Candace Dearing and Ruth Bennear

A December Scorecard Report was distributed to SAC members.  This report is a condensed monthly report of the Key Performance Indicators for the month of December.  It also draws comparison between the month of December to the previous school months.   Mrs. Dearing and Mrs. Bennear explained how the numbers are tallied and what the numbers mean in respect to the decision process of what is best for each individual student.

Our first “FORF” (Florida Oral Reading Fluency) report was also included in this scorecard.  The “on the mark” program, which assists teachers in compiling the data for the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) Lexile Scores, was also discussed.  Mrs. Dearing announced that Phillippi was able to fund the use of substitute teachers in the classrooms while the teacher could conduct this individualized testing measure without disrupting the class curriculum.  It was proposed that SAC money be considered next year for this purpose.

FCAT:

An FCAT schedule was distributed to SAC members.  Mrs. Dearing read two reading samples from Phillippi fourth grade students to demonstrate the difference in writing styles here among our student body.  FCAT practice data sheets were explained by Mrs. Bennear.
