Meeting
was called to order 3:30 p.m.
2)
Minutes
from 11/5/2007 were unable to be approved at this time. It was decided by Talia Vonbender that the
11/5/2007 minutes would be e-mailed to all SAC members for electronic
approval.
3) SAC Members gathered in the PSE
Courtyard for our annual SAC photograph.
4) New Business:
Ann
Putnam – 4th grade teacher, PSE
Accelerated
reading program was explained and discussed.
Putnam demonstrated how data from the AR program is immediately
available. The program guides children
to choose books that fit their individual reading level. Putnam stated that the AR reading program
encourages “independent reading at the appropriate level” and surmised that as
long as the child is challenged, the AR program has met its goal. Mrs. O’Malley, PSE Librarian, added to the
discussion by showing SAC members how to find AR book titles and their point
value which are found throughout the library.
A list of the AR book titles and their point value are also listed in
binders located in the PSE media center as well as available on-line.
5) Old Business
Data: Candace Dearing and Ruth Bennear
Progress
monitoring reports were distributed to SAC members. Mrs. Dearing and Mrs. Bennear explained how
the reports are tallied and what the numbers mean in respect to the decision
process of what is best for each individual student. The report breaks down each students risk
level, level of service, services provided, FCAT score and target goals. The decision tree helped SAC member to
visually see the path a child must take to meet his or her target goal. Materials and supplemental materials provided
where also discussed, including Voyager which was partially funded by this SAC
Committee.
