Item 3:

Climate Survey Results

The School Climate Survey results are in. Overall it appears that staff, students and parents are happy with the school’s climate. Most scores averaged to be a 4 or higher. Areas that fell short of a score of 4 were as follows:

Classified wanted to see improvement in training, salary, resources,

receiving information from the district and accountability.

Parents wanted to see more independent homework.

Students wanted to see a more visible principal and fewer interruptions.

Teachers wanted consistent, fair discipline, fewer interruptions of class time and more training in parent/teacher collaboration.

More detailed information will come as the Climate Survey results are

     copied and disseminated.

Item 4:

Test/Teach/Measure Initiative

The question was raised by Mrs. Dearing as to whether or not to pursue the Test/Teach/Measure Initiative. This program requires a commitment on the part of the staff in terms of training and application. This program has been proven to be successful and is supported by The Dyslexia Foundation. If we are interested, an application must be completed by March 19, 2004. The committee agreed to pursue unanimously. Sheri Paulsen will meet with Mrs. Dearing to help write the application paragraph.

Other:

McGraw Hill Publishing

Cheryl Farr, who is currently taking the online reading course, brought information to share with the committee about a McGraw Hill website that offers resources for teachers that correlate with Sunshine State Standards and FCAT. The cost for the whole campus to use the site and downloads would be 10,000 downloads for $795. An individual teacher could have 100 downloads for $20. Ms McGrail pointed out that there are many good sites out there that could be investigated before purchasing. Mrs. Dearing approved to have Cheryl Farr  pilot” the site by paying the $20 fee for Cheryl out of the School Improvement budget.
