PHILLIPPI SHORES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SDMT/SAC MEETING

FEBRUARY 24, 2003

M I N U T E S

Sharon Lantheaume called the meeting to order at 3:15.  There were three items on the agenda.  Capitol outlay funds for microphones, school dress code and substitute rotation schedule.

Item 1

Leiland Eible presented prices/options of various microphone packages for use in in cafeteria.  Consensus was reached to order the “Church Mic Pack” from Sam Ash.  This includes 2 hanging microphones as well as a podium microphone.  Ms. Eible will check into the cost of shipping and handling, but it was noted that we are well below the budgeted amount ($1,250.00).  Ms. Eible will contact the Telecommunications Department to investigate having the microphones installed.

Item 2

Survey results were tabulated and it was determined that we had between a 70 and 80% response from Phillippi families.  Of those responses, parents were in favor of uniforms by approximately a two-to-one margin or approximately 70% of respondents felt favorably about uniforms.

-In light of the survey results, it was decided to continue the process of investigating uniforms for our school.  The steps will be as follows:

March 10, 2003 – Dr. Cooley will prepare and distribute an informational flyer informing parents of the following dates and meetings.

March 17, 2003 – One official ballot for voting on uniforms will be sent home to each Phillippi family.  Ballot will be designed by Sheri Paulsen and Dottie Rosenfield.  In order for school uniforms to be approved, a minimum of 60% of Phillippi families must respond, and of those responding, at least 75% must vote to adopt a policy of school uniforms or the process will be ended.

March 18, 2003 – A parent information night will be held from 7 – 8 P.M.  Pam Singer will invite representatives from other schools to attend and possibly bring samples of the actual uniforms worn at their schools.  A question and answer session will be included in the program.

March 20, 2003 – Ballots will be due back to school.

          March 21, 2003 – No school – Professional Day

          March 28, 2003 – Spring Break

March 31, 2003 – Ballots will be counted by a committee consisting of two – three SDMT/SAC officers and two – three PTA representatives.

April 1, 2003 – A memo informing the results of the vote will be sent home with students.

Item 3

-This item was tabled until the next SDMT/SAC meeting.

Dottie Rosenfield adjourned the meeting at 5:11.
