Ms. Komara asked if there was any discussion regarding the Oak Park School presented budget for the 2004-2005 school year.

Susan Lomas was not able to attend the meeting due to her son being sick.  She said she approved of the budget with the only concern being that she would like to see a PE aide assisting the coaches if the classes were to remain the same size as this year.  Ms. Komara said that was not her plan.

Dave Niederpruem stated that he feels the budget as presented gives maximum flexibility and that it is a good plan in place.

No further discussion regarding the budget.  Jan asked for a vote to approve the budget as presented. All members present voted yes.  Raymell Grimes faxed her vote of approval. Susan Lomas sent her vote of approval via email.  Mary Byrd called to give her vote of approval.

Sandy Bowen explained the Oak Park South budget. The school will start out with four classrooms. Primary will be 1-4th, Intermediate will be grades 4-5, Middle School A will be grades 6/7 and Middle School B will be grades 7/8. He may have to move some of the students due to their reading/math levels. The students will be from Osprey south to North Port and Englewood. Jan added that there is room for expansion of the program. Portables can be moved in. A part time Literacy Coach may be added. A former employee is interested in this position. The cost center number has been assigned. It is 1311. Mr. Bowen needs furniture, computers etc. to start up the new school. He will shop at the District warehouse. He feels we need to be creative in providing the South County students the same opportunities as Oak Park North. Mr. Bowen said that he is looking forward to the challenges of Oak Park South. He asked for approved of his 2004-2005 budget from the Oak Park North SAC committee. All voted yes.

Jan Komara announced that the SEA Trip for the PRO team will be go on this spring regardless of the withdrawal of the vans that have been deemed inappropriate for student travel per Jody Dumas, Director of Transportation. Small air conditioned busses will be used to transport the students. Ms. Komara will contribute money towards the transportation bill. Oak Park will need additional drivers next year, therefore, Ms. Komara will send designated staff to the bus training in May. Janice Summersgill has not seen any documentation regarding school vans not being appropriate to transport students. She would like for the School Board attorney to look in to this matter. Ms Komara said that all staff that transport students in their personal vehicles must follow the District policy to include that the vehicle must be currently registered in the state of Florida, be insured for personal injury protection and property damage liability in at least the minimum amounts required by law, and must be in good working order. Any staff wishing to transport students in a private vehicle will request approval by submitting his/her driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance I.D. card, to the principal in a reasonable amount of time before the planned travel. The principal will examine the driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance card, and may, in his or her discretion, give approval for the transportation of students in the private vehicles requested. A student who is transported to any activity in a private vehicle approved under this policy shall return from the activity in the same vehicle, unless the student is released to his/her parent. Each student’s parent or guardian must be notified in writing about the transportation arrangement and give written consent before a student is transported in a private vehicle.

The prom was the next topic of discussion. Terri Chivington stated that the prom will be held on April 30th from 7:00 to 10:00pm. The theme will be Mardi Gras.
