Jan Komara announced that the SEA Trip for the PRO team
will be go on this spring regardless of the withdrawal of the vans that have
been deemed inappropriate for student travel per Jody Dumas, Director of
Transportation. Small air conditioned busses will be used to transport the
students. Ms. Komara will contribute money towards the transportation bill. Oak
Park will need additional drivers next year, therefore, Ms. Komara will send
designated staff to the bus training in May. Janice Summersgill has not seen
any documentation regarding school vans not being appropriate to transport
students. She would like for the School Board attorney to look in to this
matter. Ms Komara said that all staff that transport students in their personal
vehicles must follow the District policy to include that the vehicle must be
currently registered in the state of Florida, be insured for personal injury
protection and property damage liability in at least the minimum amounts required
by law, and must be in good working order. Any staff wishing to transport
students in a private vehicle will request approval by submitting his/her
driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance I.D. card, to the
principal in a reasonable amount of time before the planned travel. The
principal will examine the driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance
card, and may, in his or her discretion, give approval
for the transportation of students in the private vehicles requested. A student
who is transported to any activity in a private vehicle approved under this
policy shall return from the activity in the same vehicle, unless the student
is released to his/her parent. Each student’s parent or guardian must be
notified in writing about the transportation arrangement and give written
consent before a student is transported in a private vehicle.
The prom was the next topic of discussion. Terri Chivington
stated that the prom will be held on April 30th from 7:00 to 10:00pm. The theme
