The by-laws were passed out to those attending the meeting. We will hope to scan and have the by-laws on-line soon, and Team leaders will have a copy so that they can review these with their teams.

There are 9 voting members, but all other interested parties are welcome for input.
Items Discussed:
Results of 2001-2002 report – we met 31 of 34 goals. We will continue to maintain as priority need most goals but will “raise the bar” by:
Including more students and using 80% achievement as a goal throughout the plan
Joe, Susan (co-chairs) and Jan and Sandy will meet and revise the goals as specified
at the meeting and then will turn in the new plan to the District by October 4th
A roster of the SAC/MG Team including names, addresses, phone numbers and
e-mails will be submitted at the same time.
Team Leaders will have copies to share with their teams so that all staff understand
the expectations.
Meetings were established through December and will be held from 6:00-7:00 pm (in conjunction with PTSO) on Tuesdays: October 8, November 12, December 10th.
Other items of Discussion:
New ruling by state about 3rd graders having to take the FCAT and pass it or be retained – unless students will be tracked for a special diploma, they are to take the FCAT – more information will follow as Jan gets it.
Grants – we did SO well and will continue to apply for them. Oak Park appreciates the dedication and spirit of enriching students that its teachers obviously embody.
Sheriff’s Dept. Project for Middle School – next week 8 students selected by Detective Helme, Linda Heusner, and Jan will begin working with Det. Helme and Det. Cox (from MacIntosh) on conflict resolution, anger management, and other skills after school on Tuesdays from 1:30 to 3:30. The program will include a reward/learning exercise of working with dogs, as the Suncoast Human Society brings in animals for the students to work with.
PTSO News:
We have dates scheduled for 2 of our dances:
Fall Dance on 11/1 from 6:30 to 9:00 and Valentines Dance on 2/14.. We will be inviting Loveland and Children’s Haven to participate, along with Sarasota High and several other schools who have programs for special students.
Chick Filet nights (we get 10% of the evening’s profit) are scheduled for 1/23 and 4/10 (Thursdays), and PTSO is working with Sweet Tomatoes on a 20% evening event. We may sell Chick Filet calendars for $5.00 – more information to follow.
