Lakeview Elementary School

April 7, 2004

Linda Knight called the meeting to order at 3:17 p.m.  A correction to the March 24th minutes was made.  Under “Other Ideas,” it should have read Guidance, ESE, and Registrar Secretary instead of just Guidance Secretary.

 

Jan Coleman asked that this meeting be dedicated to finalizing the budget.  At the May 5th meeting, the remaining goals will be discussed.

 

Since everyone was in agreement with the following purchases from the budget, it was decided to determine the total cost to see what money would be left to purchase additional services:

          1-Kindergarten Teacher             $59,248

          1-4th Grade Teacher                    59,248

          1-Science Lab Teacher                59,248

          2-A2 Remediation Aides

          (for 2nd and 3rd grade)                  45,966

          Hold 2 units                              118,496

 

                   Total                               $342,206

 

Money left to work with totals:  $154,761

 

Since a 7-wheel rotation for Specials was agreed upon by everyone, the task now is to determine what the 7th position would be.  Some of the ideas discussed were adding a Writing teacher, a Guidance teacher, or a P.E/Fitness teacher to the Specials Wheel. 

 

N. Forbes made a motion to add a P.E./Fitness teacher to the Specials Wheel.  L. Silva seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

Discussion followed about keeping the A2 Aide to teach Fine Arts on the Specials Wheel.  G. Laessig made a motion to keep the A2 aide on the Specials Wheel.  The motion was seconded by L. Silva.  The motion passed.

 

With $95,513 remaining, ideas were discussed about what to add.  Ideas that were discussed were adding a Guidance teacher, an A2 aide for ESE support, a 5th grade teacher, and a Writing Coach.

 

After much discussion, N. Forbes made a motion to hire a Writing Coach with the emphasis being with grades 1, 2, and 3.  D. Mrstik seconded it.  The motion passed.

With $35,252 remaining, ideas were discussed on what to spend the money on.  These ideas included:   A2 aide for CCC, A2 aide for ESE support, and an A2 aide for help with iBook lessons.

 

D. Barnes made a motion to give the balance of the money ($35,252) to “temporary personnel services.”  J. Murray seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

 

A question came up about how the Science Lab schedule would work.  Jan Coleman said that the schedule and which grade levels would be worked with would be discussed at the next Lead Teachers Meeting.

 

K. Usman made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  G. Gibbs  seconded the motion.  The meeting was adjourned at 4:38.

 

The next meeting will be held on Wed., May 5, 2004 at 3:15 in the Media Center.  The remaining goals—7, 8, 9, and 10 will be discussed.
