School Advisory Council Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, February 12, 2008
3:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.
 
Members Present: Sally Mancheno, Don Knoepfle, Carla Johnson, Tish Temple, Kirk Hutchinson, Elaine Stewart, Nina Schwartz, Lori Ackling, Jenness DeBruler, Pat Robison, Yasmin Rodriguez, Bruce Spicer, Mary Kirsten, Karynne Muncy, Kimberly Disney-Gillis.
 
Non-Members Present:  Shannon Cannon for Mike O’Brien
 
 
Tish Temple called the meeting to order at 3:50 p.m.
 
 
Review Minutes from last SAC meeting, January 8, 2008.
 
 
 
New Business:
 
1st Grade – A group of first-grade teachers are working with teammates and peers to try to begin a tutoring program before and after school using Waterford materials.  Beginning Stanford 10 test preparation.
 
4th Grade – Successfully finished Florida Writes.  Getting ready for next stage of FCAT.
 
Sally shared more about the success of Arbor Day Celebration.  Many community leaders were present for the celebration.
 
3rd Grade – Focusing on FCAT preparation to help students become more familiar with the testing format.
 
5th Grade – The team was very proud of the model behavior shown by the students during the Arbor Day celebration.  The 5th grade team is giving a “mock” science test during their focus rotations to help prepare students.
 
Nina Schwartz – FCAT testing prep and dispersion of testing materials is the focus.
 
PTO – raised $4,500 from the 5K race.  PTO had to order more discount cards due to their popularity. 
 
PALS – The volunteer luncheon was wonderful.  They were especially touched by Ms. Lay’s Kindergarten and Mrs. Lax’s class singing to them.
 
Kindergarten – Gathering information after reviewing On The Mark test results.
 
Specials – Jump Rope for Heart is the last week of February.
 
Don Knoepfle – Credit crunch is beginning to affect the economy.
 
ESE – Making sure all accommodations for ESE students are being met to provide them with the services they are entitled to.
 
Mr. Hutchinson – Credited the students and teachers for being so well-prepared for the Florida Writes assessment.
 
Mrs. Mancheno – The “Time for Kids” drive will be held again this year to provide students with the magazine next year.  Teachers have been attending much training.  Budget is beginning to be formed.

Tish Temple adjourned the meeting.  Next scheduled meeting will be March 11th.
