School Advisory Council Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, December 11, 2007
3:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.
 
Members Present: Sally Mancheno (Principal), Don Knoepfle, Carla Johnson, Tish Temple, Kirk Hutchinson, Michael O’Brien, Elaine Stewart, Nina Schwartz, Lori Ackling, Jenness DeBruler, Pat Robison.
 
Non-Members Present:  Sergei Glushonkov, for Bruce Spicer
 
 
Tish Temple called the meeting to order at 3:50 p.m.
 
 
Review Minutes from last SAC meeting, October 29, 2007.
 Don Knoepfle moved to approve minutes, Kirk Hutchinson seconded, SAC approved.
 
 
 
New Business:
·         Sue Davis demonstrated and explained the use of the new Activotes.  Short discussion about how they can and will be used was conducted.
 
·         Connie Lightfoot has taken an extended leave of absence.  A new third grade SAC rep will be appointed.
 
·         Pat Robison shared that the 5th grade science fair was a success with many outstanding projects entered this year.  The grade level team has also begun focus Wednesday where student data is reviewed to form “focus” groups which work on a specific standard.
 
·         1st grade is conducting their Holidays Around the World which exposes students to customs of other countries.
 
·         Kindergarten is making books and crafts focusing on literacy for their Holiday Hop.
 
·         4th grade is still conducting their Focus Fridays.  Some of the focus groups are centered on remediation and some are learning new concepts.  4th grade is also preparing for FCAT Family Night.
 
·         Tish Temple shared the success of the King Cat club.  The King Cat club is planned to expand after January.
 
·         The PTO informed SAC that the parade was a success.  The 5K run will be held in January.
 
·         Specials will be hosting a concert this Friday.  PE conducted their Treasure Lanes bowling day.  Next year the bowling day will be held during another month to hopefully increase the turnout.
 
·         Don Knoepfle reported that The School Box is now online.
 
·         Nina Schwartz indicated that the Data team is getting ready for all the progress monitoring that will begin taking place after break.
 
·         Mrs. Mancheno informed SAC that the proposed $5 book coupon per student will not be feasible through a book fair and will be planned through another source.  The administration will begin meeting monthly with each team to review data on a more regular basis.  Mrs. Mancheno also shared that the 3rd-5th grade students are participating in the Sunshine State Readers Program which asks students or classes to read, review and vote on a selection of books.

Tish Temple adjourned the meeting.  Next scheduled meeting, in January, will be announced.
