School Advisory Council Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, September 11, 2007
3:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.
Members Present: Sally Mancheno (Principal), Don
Knoepfle, Carla Johnson, Tish Temple, Nina Tufenkjian, Kirk Hutchinson, Jenness
DeBruler, Connie Lightfoot, Patricia Robison, Yasmin Rodriguez, Michael
O’Brien, Elaine Stewart, Kim Deeb, Mary Kirsten, Karyn Muncy.

Tish Temple called the meeting to order at 3:50 p.m.
Review of expectations
and explanation of School Advisory Council.
New Business:
Janice from Lintor Publishing presented Lintor’s
Create-a-Book product. The Create-a-Book
consists of publishing supplies and book covers to publish student work. Create-a-Books can be used to create classroom
libraries and a student author section in Lamarque’s library.
Tish Temple shared with SAC Lamarque’s
5 Star School status. To maintain 5 Star School
status, two SAC members must attend a PALS workshop
September 27th at 5:30pm and share with SAC at next scheduled
meeting.
Motion to nominate Yasmin
Rodriguez as new Vice Chair for SAC. Jenness DeBruler seconded and SAC approved
nomination.
Pat Robison explained that all Activboards have been
installed in the new 5th grade portables. 5th grade has made a smooth
transition into the portables.
Mike O’Brien reported that the 4th grade
team has already begun SRI testing and data collecting to better form their
instruction for their students.
Connie Lightfoot shared that the 3rd grade
team increased from 8 to 10 instructional positions and the 3rd
grade team has acclimated to its new team members.
Carla Johnson, 1st grade, shared that the 1st
grade team has also begun testing to form focus groups and team teaching pairs
to better instruct the students and meet their individual needs.
Elaine Stewart gave an explanation of the
Kindergarteners need to settle into the new routines and demands of school.
Jenness DeBruler described PTO’s plan for the year and
upcoming events. A Spirit Night will be
held at a local restaurant the last Thursday of each month.
Kim Deeb highlighted PALS’
emphasis on tutoring and aiding teachers.
Nina Tufenkjian described her responsibilities as a
data coach to SAC. She is part of a 4
person literacy team which offers support to teachers in data collecting and
interpreting.
Don Knoepfle proudly related that the School Box’s
sales increased. Sales this year
surpassed last year’s by August 12th.
Assistant Principal, Kirk Hutchinson, explained that
Lamarque’s character trait of the month is respect. Guidance counselors will be presenting
monthly lessons to each class based on the character trait of the month. Mr. Hutchinson also detailed to SAC the
“Lovely Lunch Manners” program enacted to reward appropriate lunchroom behavior.
Mrs. Mancheno shared with SAC that Lamarque met its
Academic Yearly Progress requirements and achieved an “A” school grade. Our new School Improvement Plan will be
prepared for the next SAC meeting.
A community forum will be held on October 9th
at 5:00 to highlight Next Generation Learning to Lamarque families.
