School Advisory Council Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, May 08, 2007
3:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.
Members Present: Sally Mancheno (Principal), Don
Knoepfle, Carla Johnson, Tish Yarish, Nina Schwartz, Jenness DeBruler, Carolyn
Lax, Lori Ackling, Yasmin Rodriguez, D’Arcy Denis, Michael O’Brien, Scott
Bussell, Anniese Curley.
Non-Members Present: Michael Griffith
Tish Yarish called the meeting to order at 3:45 p.m.
Review of
Minutes from previous SAC meeting on March
No corrections or additions. Tish Yarish motioned to approve minutes, Yasmin
Rodriguez seconded and SAC members approved.
New Business:
3rd grade FCAT scores are in.
There was a high correlation between students who
attended the “King Cat” club and FCAT scores.
“Lamarque Literacy Lion Club” – first grade students
who scored below the 40th percentile on the SAT 9 will be invited to
a summer school program. This program
will occur four Thursdays in June.
Parents will be given skills and make & take activities to implement
with their students at home. The
students will be using the Waterford
computer program with their parents at school.
Fly-Up Day is scheduled for Friday, May 11, 2007. The students in each grade-level will be
visiting next year’s grade level teachers to gain insight into what will be
expected of them next year.
FCAT Survival day was filled with fun activities that
the students enjoyed. There were many
volunteers that helped with the survival day.
Book Fair is doing well and profits are increasing daily.
Chorus will be performing for the entire school
population.
High school students will be visiting each third grade
classroom to read the story, Wild About Books, and have a class
discussion with the students. Every
elementary school in North
Port will be
participating in this grant sponsored activity.
Yasmin Rodriguez updated SAC on the progress of the
search for book making supplies. Mrs.
Mancheno expressed the desire to add a “student author” collection in the
library for all students to check out and read.
