School Advisory Council Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, April 25, 2007
3:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.
 
Members Present: Sally Mancheno (Principal), Don Knoepfle, Carla Johnson, Tish Yarish, Nina Schwartz, Jenness DeBruler, Carolyn Lax, Lori Ackling, Yasmin Rodriguez, D’Arcy Denis, Michael O’Brien, Scott Bussell, Kristin Cawthorne, Patricia Robison.
 
Non-Members Present: Michael Griffith
 
 
Tish Yarish called the meeting to order at 3:50 p.m.
 
 
Review of Minutes from previous SAC meeting on March
No corrections or additions.  Yasmine Rodriguez motioned to approve minutes, Lori Ackley seconded and SAC members approved.
 
 
New Business:
·         Budget:
* Budget focused on maintaining instructional integrity of Lamarque.
* Mrs. Mancheno is putting in waiver process to accommodate the instructional      needs of Lamarque.
* Class size should remain low and within the governmental parameters.
* Students will be seen by Specials teachers on a proposed 5-day schedule.
* Mrs. Mancheno reviewed the remainder of the 2007-2008 budget.
 
Mrs. Mancheno motioned to approve the 2007-2008 budget “as-is”, Jenness DeBruler seconded and SAC members approved the budget “as-is”.
 
PTO is creating better forms of communication for next year.  They are also willing to provide a consistent schedule of volunteers next year to aid with the extra Media or office responsibilities. 
 
·         SAC Member Updates:
* PTO – Hoe-Down was a success and raised $2,600 dollars from the Silent Auction.  The AC Heroes book signing will be on May 5 in the Media Center.  PTO’s fundraisers and events are focused on bringing families to Lamarque.
* Don Knoepfle – Two new popular products arose out of the annual conference, which are Moon Sand & Banana Grams.
* Lori Ackling, Busey Bank – Many customers commented on the success of Lamarque’s Hoe-Down.
*  Mrs. Mancheno shared that the Literacy Team was awarded a $15,000 grant to supplement the Waterford program for 1st grade students.  The grant will also have a parent component in which parents will be able to visit the computer lab to view/hear what their children are working on in Waterford.
* Nina Schwartz – Inventories are being reviewed and they are finishing the progress monitoring process.
* 1st grade – Focusing on refining narrative writing skills of their students and planning on next year’s schedule of events/parent night.
* 2nd grade – Studying measurements, amphibians, and narrative writing.
* 4th grade – FCAT Survival Day is May 3.  They will have a “Fly-up” day with the other grade levels so each grade level may meet their possible teachers for next year.
* 5th grade – Heron Creek guidance counselors came to visit 5th grade students to share expectations of middle school.  5th grade graduation will be May 21, during the evening.
* Specials – Helping with FCAT Survival Day.  They are participating in and are fiscal agents for a grant involving the Middle school and High school as well.  The grant allows 5th grade teachers to visit the middle school and 8th grade teachers to visit the high school, in order to better serve their students.
* Tech – Inventorying student laptops, creating video book reports which are broadcasted on the morning news, and featuring bulletin boards on the morning news as well.

Nina Schwartz moved to adjourn meeting.  Tish Yarish adjourned meeting at 4:55.  Next scheduled meeting to occur on Tuesday, May 8, 2007.
