22 in attendance:

Brenda Aguayo, Francisca Aviles, Tracey Bailey, Nickie Brown, Antoinette Bush, Audrey Davis,

Julie Harrell, Heather Hettinger, Jane Hordatt, Rob Kanotz, Myndel Miller, Maureen Prieto,

Cheryl Rocco, Martha Samuelson, Bill Sarazen, Diana Stoker, and Maureen Taliento,.

Myndel Miller welcomed members back to the second SAC meeting and introduced those who missed the first meeting.  Members read and accepted the minutes of the September 12 meeting.  All agreed also to accept the SAC Operational Guidelines in its entirety.

Principal Steve Dragon reviewed revisions to the School Professional Development Plan (SPDP) and explained that four additional Topic Areas were added, which reflect staff interest in professional development.  Two points came up in discussion:

Cheryl Rocco noted that the Kennedy Center Project (#XV) needed wording to show that participants would share their study schoolwide, to benefit the whole school.

Maureen Taliento suggested adding option C (salary credit) for compensation for professional development activities during non-duty time.

Both of these points will be added to the SPDP before it is submitted for approval by the district Friday, September 29.  The SAC members approved this amended School Improvement Plan.

Mr. Dragon said staff would be notified of the SPDP once it was approved.

Maureen Taliento clarified that activities other than SPDP activities may be part of a teacher’s TPAS.

Mr. Dragon invited SAC members to bring new topics of interest or concern to the table.  He gave an update on the building renovation project, carefully noting that all plans are subject to change.  At this point a company has been chosen to submit a plan and there is a possibility that the construction will take place in both buildings 1 and 2 during the summer of 2007, rather than during two summers.  To be continued…

Diana Stoker brought up a question about traffic and student safety.  Evidently the neighborhood does not want speed bumps on Gocio Road, but there is also a concern about the flashing light which slows traffic on Prudence.  Mr. Dragon will call the County Transportation Department to request that the light start flashing at 3:10 rather than at 3:15.  It flashes for 30 minutes and that is enough time for our students to cross the street after dismissal.

The next SAC meeting will be Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 3:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Cheryl Rocco
