Mrs. Michelle Miller, Principal

Hello Tiger family and I hope today is a great day!  This is Principal Miller with some important news straight from Gulf Gate Elementary.  Check this out:

·         Let me start with great news, starting in the 24-25 school year Gulf Gate Elementary will be a Title I School.  This ensures that ALL children have a fair and equal access to a quality education and focuses on closing the achievement gap.  What does this mean for YOU, the parent?  Join us for our SAC meeting tomorrow at 3:30 in the media for more information on the many benefits of being a Title I school next year.  We hope to see you there!

·         Can you believe that it’s that time of year for re-registration for your students?  This year will be slightly different as we are switching over to a new student system and you WILL NOT be receiving a Snap Code as you have in the past.  Re-registration for the 2024/2025 school year requires you to set up a FOCUS parent portal account (you need name, email, and password to do so).  Next, you will proceed to add one or more students to re-register your students.  There is a short video on the Sarasota County Website under the registration tab to help you navigate this process. This tab can be found here:  https://www.sarasotacountyschools.net/o/scs/page/registration .   If you need additional support, feel free to reach out to our Registrar, Kathleen Henjum.  Please note, Re-Registration does not open up on the Sarasota County website until, Thursday, April 18th.

·         Do you, or someone you know, have a student about to begin kindergarten at Gulf Gate Elementary?  If so, next Wednesday, April 24th at 6pm will be our Kindergarten Orientation meeting for parents and kindergarten students about to join the Tiger Family.  We cannot wait to see you there.

·         We work hard at Gulf Gate to ensure your children eat a healthy lunch, but we need your help.  We ask that you not pack soda and/or energy drinks in lunches.  Water, flavored water, or purchasing milk are good options for students at lunch time.  Please help us teach healthy habits from home.

·         Thank you to all the families who submitted reservations for our Family STEAM Night on May 2nd. We had a wonderful response and have reached our capacity due to space limitations.  Our reservations are now closed for this event. Those of you who have a reservation will receive notification from your teacher this week to let you know. We are sorry - but we are not able to take any more reservations for this event for this year.

·         I am sure you received Officer Joe’s reminder, but please remember students who ride a scooter, skateboard, or bike to/from school are required to wear a helmet.  This is not a Gulf Gate rule, it is the law.  We want all of our students to get to and from school safely and will be requiring that they wear their helmet if riding.  Please help us from home and if you are in need of a helmet for your child please reach out to us, we are here to help!
