What is school concurrency?
Concurrency, in general, is a process by which a local government ensures that public services [e.g., roads, utilities, parks, libraries] will be adequate to meet the demands of new development; if not, the developer may be required to pay for expansion of services. In 2005 the Florida Legislature mandated that public schools be included according to a schedule monitored by the Florida Department of Community Affairs [DCA]. School concurrency must be in effect throughout our county by October 2008. For more information click here.
What are small projects?
Small Projects include renovations or remodeling of individual classrooms, offices, storage rooms and other interior spaces, plus sidewalks, fencing, lighting, and other exterior areas. Each spring, requests are routed to the Small Projects team for prioritization, pricing, budgeting and scheduling during the summer or following year. Included on the team are instructional Executive Directors and managers for construction, facilities, telecom, network services, and similar departments. Ken Marsh coordinates the team.
