YMCA Triad Alternative Program

Triad (Sarasota and Venice campuses)

School Calendar: 9-month and Summer School

The YMCA Triad Alternative Program is a cooperative community program that provides alternative education to students who have committed an expellable offense in Sarasota County District Schools. The program provides a caring and supportive environment that is guided by the Core Values of the Y: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Students are provided an academic setting that integrates remedial, differentiated, enriched instruction, and a behavior modification foundation. In addition, students receive individual, group and crisis counseling, Adventure Based Counseling, grief/loss counseling, Substance Abuse education, and the opportunity to obtain mentors through the Y Mentor Program and Big Brothers and Sisters Program.

Upon entry into the program, a Service Plan is developed that addresses the individual academic and behavior needs of the student. Students are responsible for setting monthly goals and making progress in the program as evidenced by moving up in the rank system. Upon successful completion of the program, students begin the process of re-entry to school, vocational training, college, or employment.
