What’s For Lunch?

Our Food and Nutrition Services department prides itself in providing quality foods.  Especially now, during tough economic times, with dramatic food price increases, it is critical.  Still, it may be surprising to know that we use many of the same products in our kitchens that you have in your refrigerators and pantries at home.  The majority of the food items are familiar, brand name products.  Our department believes it is important to provide quality, nutritious food items to students each day.  We want our customers to be confident that we are doing our best to provide affordable, nutritious and tasty lunches.  Below are some of the brand name products we offer and use in our kitchens each day:

Land'o'Lakes Cheese  -  Uncle Ben's Brown Rice  -  Tyson Chicken  -  Near East Couscous  -  Starkist Tuna  -  Dasani Water

Campbell’s Tomato Soup  -  Smucker’s Uncrustables  -   Dannon Yogurt  -  Minute Maid Juice  -  General Mills Cereals

Hidden Valley Salad Dressing  -  Kelloggs Cereals  -  Cattemen's BBQ Sauce  -  Quaker Oats  -  Heinz Ketchup

Pepperidge Farm After School Snacks  -  French's Mustard  -  Kikkoman Soy Sauce  -  Sun Maid Raisins

Mrs. Butterworth's Breakfast Items

  …..and what about nutrition?

As mentioned above, we provide quality, nutritious items.  Our Food and Nutrition department is required by the United States Department of Agriculture to meet specific nutrition requirements for school breakfast and lunch programs.  With 5 registered dietitians on staff, it is no surprise that nutrition is the first ingredient in our meals.  We make nutrition information available to students, staff and parents with posted information in the school cafeterias and on our website at www.sarasota.k12.fl.us/fns/index.htm.  In addition, we provide a menu to school nurses listing the carbohydrate content of each item for diabetic students and staff.  This information is also on our website and updated monthly.

Please Remember: MyLunchMoney.com.  This is a wonderful website where parents can make prepayments, view student account balances and even view a seven meal history.  This great website gives parents the ability to monitor and control the money in their students’ lunch accounts.

For further inquiries about any of the above information, please contact your Food and Nutrition Manager or call the Food and Nutrition central office at 486-2199.
