Hurricane season is from June 1 through November 30.

School buildings in Sarasota County may be used to shelter residents who have been displaced from their homes due to natural or man-made disasters. The school district works with the Sarasota County Emergency Management Services and The American Red Cross to coordinate all activities related to handling disasters. The school district itself may, at times, have a need of school facilities for sheltering or relocation to temporarily meet internal district needs.

In the event of a disaster, the following areas may need to provide services. These areas must complete the following forms and documents.

If a shelter manager is requested to open a school in a disaster situation, that request will come directly from the school district representative at the Emergency Operations Center.

Shelter managers should print all documents in the shelter management section listed below. If department services are needed, the corresponding department section listed below should be accessed and information printed.
